A creative holiday in Ireland – the perfect way to unwind and get inspired

A creative holiday is the perfect way to relax, unwind and let your imagination run wild. If you're looking for a unique holiday that will leave you feeling refreshed and invigorated, a creative holiday is the perfect choice for you.

Ireland is the perfect place to enjoy a creative holiday, with its stunning scenery, friendly people and wealth of creative activities on offer. Here are some of the best tips and advice for getting the most out of your creative holiday in Ireland.

Choose an activity that you enjoy

One of the best things about a creative holiday is that you can choose to do whatever activity you enjoy. Whether it's painting, photography, writing or any other form of art, make sure to choose an activity that you know you'll enjoy.

That way, you can relax and really let yourself go without feeling like you have to force yourself to be creative… remember that even when you seem to be doing ‘nothing’ here in Ireland your creative brain is thinking up ideas, processing colours and light, and making plans you may not be aware of yet!

There are plenty of great options for creative holidays in Ireland, so take your time and choose the one that's right for you. You might consider our tailor-made tuition at the Inishowen Artists’ Retreat and Studio!

There's no point in choosing a holiday that's going to be more work than fun. Also, think about what kind of atmosphere you want. Do you want to be surrounded by other creatives or would you prefer a more intimate setting?

Lastly (but not least), don't forget to factor in your budget. Once you've considered all these things, it will be much easier to narrow down your options and find the perfect creative holiday for you.

Set aside some time for yourself to be creative each day

When you're on holiday, it's easy to get caught up in sightseeing and socialising. However, it's important to set aside some time each day to do something that's just for you.

Whether it's writing a few morning pages, taking a moment to sketch, reading a book, going for a walk or working on your chosen project... taking some time out for yourself each day can help a person stay balanced and relaxed, relieve stress and anxiety, and generally improve mental health.

Even 30 minutes of uninterrupted time can be helpful. The key is to make sure that you're not rushed or interrupted during this time so that you can really get into the flow of things.

Read a book

There's nothing quite like getting lost in a good book.  At our Artists’ Retreat we have quite an eclectic collection, gathered over the years, which are available to you during your stay.  There is even a novel by John O’Connor called ‘Inishowen’ which finds its final chapters unfolding in this stunning peninsula.

If you don't have time to read an entire book while you're on holiday, why not try a Kindle or an eBook? You can easily download books onto your phone or tablet, so you can read while you're on the go.

Go for a walk

One of the best ways to explore Ireland is on foot. There are plenty of scenic walking routes that you can follow, including those local to us at Inishowen Head, Malin Head, Dunree Fort and Mamore Gap (depending on how ‘out of breath’ you wish to get), or you could just take a stroll around your chosen town or village.

Walking is also a great way to clear your head and get some fresh air and there are often local walking guides who specialise on either the natural world or our local heritage who can engage you in a host of wonderous information.

Work on your chosen project

If you're working on a creative project, such as writing a book or painting a picture, make sure you set aside some time each day to work on it. This will help you stay focused and motivated, and you'll be able to enjoy your holiday even more knowing that you're making progress.

Having a routine for a few hours a day won’t impose too much on the other aspects of your holiday.  The use of a studio is also at hand at our Artists’ Retreat so make sure you give us a call when you’re in Inishowen!

Take some photos

Capturing memories is one of the best things about going on holiday. Make sure you take plenty of photos so that you can look back on your trip and remember all the amazing things you saw and did.

There are several very accomplished photographers living locally… some are available to hire for a day or an afternoon so it’s worth a little research or you can always contact us for recommendations.

Relax

It's important to spend some time each day just relaxing. Whether it's sitting in a café with a coffee or watching the sun set, make sure you take the time to do something that makes YOU happy.

There are lots of relaxation therapies available through hotel spas and individual practitioners… many of whom are excellent at a variety of massage, reiki and aromatherapy techniques… we know from our own experiences.

Let your creativity flow

One of the best things about a creative holiday is that there are no rules or restrictions. So go ahead and let your creativity flow into an open mode of exploration! Try something new, experiment with different techniques and don't be afraid to make mistakes.

This is your time to shine, so make the most of it. You never know what might work out perfectly or what might end up being a complete disaster - and that's all part of the fun!

Conclusion

A creative holiday in Ireland is the perfect way to recharge your batteries and explore your imagination.

By following these simple tips, you can ensure that your holiday is everything you hoped it would be - and more!
