Here's a few answers that we hope will cover most of the questions you might have. Feel free to get in touch if there's something else you'd like to ask.

Is an artist retreat holiday for me?

Our painting retreats and holidays are aimed at all levels. Demonstrations are given by our experienced resident tutor who has over 25 years’ teaching to at all levels of ability. We also bring in guest tutors for masterclasses aimed at intermediate and advanced levels in their creativity.

Your tutor will assess each participants’ skill level to tailor instructions and demonstrations to individual learning needs. The program is flexible and adaptable to the nature of the group to make for a fun and relaxed learning experience for everyone. At the end of your residency, you will have produced works to be proud of and had an insightful learning process which will benefit your creative development.

Beginners can relax because the demonstrations are thorough and detailed, your tutor will encourage you with positive, constructive advice along the way.

Intermediates can engage and excel at their level, gaining insight into areas that maybe new to them or need to be practiced with guidance.

Advanced level students will enjoy the benefit of equipment and studio. Whilst your instructor will give constructive critique in any aspects of your work that could be improved, you can enjoy the demonstrations and feel free to improvise with your own skill set.

Yoga, Cooking and other activities: In the future, some of our courses will offer a combination of painting and drawing with other activities. Those are pitched at all levels of ability and provide an opportunity to engage in a more learning and well-being activities for a more intense retreat experience. Tutors of extra activities have years of teaching experience in their fields.

Is WiFi available?

Wi-Fi is available for guests use, so that you can easily stay in touch with friends and family.

How many guests can stay in the cottage?

Accommodation in the cottage is available for 4 individuals in two twin rooms (sharing). We can provide a cot for young children.

What can I do in my spare time?

There are plenty of outdoor options to visit - beautiful countryside and costal walks, many scenic locations and areas of historical and archaeological interest around the Inishowen Artists Retreat and Studio: a library, swimming pool, spa, golf course and various local visitor attractions. After painting sessions, there is always time to relax before deciding on your evening meal, perhaps at one of our local award-winning restaurants and cafes, and craic to be had in the local pub or a quiet evening to talk about the day’s achievements.

Can I bring a non-painting parter or friend(s)?

We welcome non-painting guests on all our courses and they are welcome to come along on all painting trips, enjoy the many activities the area has to offer or simply relax, soak up the atmosphere, we have an eclectic library of interesting books available, or go for walks. Can my dietary requirements be catered for?

The cottage is self-catering, so you will be in control of what you eat and drink over your retreat and holiday.

It is important is to let us know your requirements (we'll send you an email about this after you've booked) as we like to provide a tray of home-baked goodies on arrival and stock the fridge with a few basics. Most of our ingredients are home grown or sourced from local suppliers. We can tailor our welcome tray to your needs including vegetarian, non-dairy or non-gluten and vegan, as long as we know in advance.

What is provided in the cottage?

You'll find fresh towels and bed linen, and a selection of essential toiletries provided. Hairdryers are available on request. A large basket of logs for our wood burning stove is complementary. Additional wood is available at a reasonable cost. Our kitchen contains all the essentials for cooking your own meals.

Do I need to bring any art materials?

Quality equipment including brushes, drawing equipment, fixative, pots, easels, brush cleaner and trolleys are all provided in the studio. Artists bring their own materials of choice: oils, acrylics, canvas, specialised papers and paint boxes.

The studio is equipped with day-light lighting make for a quality learning environment. We have a small stock of paints, canvas and other materials that we can supply at a reasonable cost if you require additional materials, have forgotten anything or are travelling light. We have everything an artist needs so you can relax and enjoy your experience.
